Zero Waste Patterns Book
Zero Waste Blocks offers a fresh, thoughtful approach to sustainable sewing—designed for makers who value simplicity, intention, and minimal waste. Created by designer Birgitta Helmersson, this book introduces a clean, Scandi-inspired method for sewing garments without leftover fabric or paper patterns.
Using natural fabrics and a unique paperless, zero-waste pattern-cutting technique, you’ll learn how to plan and draft garments directly onto fabric—using a fixed length end to end so every inch is used. The process feels part puzzle, part craft, and removes much of the intimidation from learning to self-draft clothing.
The book includes five foundational zero-waste pattern blocks—a t-shirt, tank top, skirt, shirt, and trousers—which can be adapted, mixed, and refined to create 20 total garments. Clear layout instructions and templates support sizes UK 6–30 / US 2–26, making the system flexible and inclusive.
Once the core blocks are mastered, the possibilities are intentionally endless. A beautiful, empowering resource for anyone interested in slow fashion, sewing with purpose, and making clothing that wastes nothing.
