Cake Tester
Cake Tester
A small tool for a small job, done well. It tells you when a bake is ready, and it does it again the next time, and the time after that.
We grew up reaching for a toothpick. Slide it into the middle of a cake, pull it out, read the crumb. Then throw the toothpick away. This one stays.
What it is
A reusable cake tester, made by Iris Hantverk in Sweden. Oiled beechwood handle, stainless steel needle. Nine inches long, so it reaches the center of a deep loaf or a tall layer without your knuckles meeting the heat.
Why it matters
One tool in place of a drawer of splinters. The needle slips cleanly into a crumb and comes out clean when the work is done. The handle sits easy between two fingers, warm to the touch, made to be picked up and set down a hundred times over. A thing you keep, rather than a thing you use once and discard.
Materials and size
- Oiled beechwood handle
- Stainless steel needle
- Nine inches long
Who it suits
The everyday baker. Bread, cake, muffins, brownies. Anyone who bakes often enough to notice the small waste of a toothpick, and who would rather reach for one good tool that lasts.
Care
- Wash by hand. Dry the needle and handle after each use.
- No dishwasher. No soaking.
- Rub the handle with a little wood oil now and then to keep it fed.
Cared for well, it serves for years. A tool for the everyday, made to last.
