no more damp, musty smelling bath mats
Why we love it as a bathmat: it dries quickly unlike cotton mats that hold moisture in their threads. Leaving it fresh and clean.
A bath mat that says hello with texture and lovely design. These mats are made from a plant fiber grown and harvested in South America called fique. Similar to jute but softer in tactility we couldn't be more excited to share this object with you! Fique is a plant from the family of Furcraea similar to the agave plant in its appearance that needs little water to grow. Healthy in abundance in the Andean regions of Colombia the fique plants store water in their large leaves that aids them in harsh dry seasons making it a true sustainable fiber option. Hand crocheted by a collective of women in Colombia that are paid fairly for their craft. This mat can be used both indoors and outside as a welcome mat to your front door but make sure to have it under a cover entryway because the natural fibers can degrade by the weather elements.
size- approx. 27 inches by 21 inches, each may vary from the handmade nature of object making
We want to thank Zuahaza for being a voice in navigating sustainable fiber making in Colombia and writing a beautiful article on the potential of fique as a material for weaving and more. Please read the article if you are intrigued:
