About the Maker:
Sun Stitched Studios (Montana Maker)
The beautifully genuine one woman-show that is Sun Stitched Studios is now a part of the Three Bales Story! Carly, a local Missoulian, leaned into a whim and began sewing a few years back. Her admiration and love for quilts and quilted objects keeps her busy. In collaboration she has sewn us a small edition of patchwork couch pillows based on a famous historical painting by Martin Johnson Heade called Hazy Day on the Marshes. And we couldn’t be more excited to share this collection with you! The power of nostalgia and contemporary textile intertwines to create her minimalist designs. We asked her why she finds quilting a timeless craft and her response was “quilting as a medium is extremely versatile, always being able to draw from the past and present [rooted] in tradition while incorporating modern themes such as minimalism is a very timeless [way of making].” Our ideas of sustainability: using all of it and using well to use less is embedded in the tradition of quilting, a sustainable practice of creating textile from smaller bits of other textiles.
