A handful of green beans, tucked into a vellum envelope.
Green beans are the vegetable children get handed to snap, which makes them a natural in the play kitchen. Eight of them come in a bundle, three long ones at 3 inches and five shorter at 2 inches, all hand sewn from wool felt. They're soft enough to squeeze in a fist and slim enough to gather into a bunch. They arrive in a vellum envelope with a handwritten label, the way seeds come from someone's garden, so the packaging is half the pleasure and the set is ready to give without wrapping it.
It's part of the Dear Mother collection, handmade by Denise, Paige's mom. Every bean is cut and sewn by hand, so no two are quite the same. Small variations are the point rather than the flaw.

Why We Chose It
We're drawn to toys that reflect real life in a quiet, beautiful way. There's something about a handful of green beans in a labeled envelope that makes a child feel handed something real, which is most of what good play needs.
